This dish originated in Minneapolis back in the 1950’s and hit its peak back in the 1960’s with shows like the Galloping Gourmet. It elevates the simple hamburger with its stuffed cheese and your favorite delicious toppings. I also put this “burger” on top of a Kaiser Roll for a more dramatic presentation.
1 1/2 pounds ground beef (I got mine from Happy Family Ranch)
6 ounces blue cheese (my choice; I’d go with cheddar for you)
1/2 teaspoon each black pepper and salt
1/4 cup mayo
2 tablespoons buffalo wing sauce or hot sauce
12 dill pickle slices
Salt and pepper
Arugula to top
4 Kaiser rolls
Using 6 ounces of beef, make hamburger balls.
Create a divot in each ball and stuff with cheese, then cover cheese completely with beef.
Salt and pepper both side of each patty.
Heat a cast iron skillet to medium.
Place burgers in skillet and cook for 7 minutes, add 1/8 cup water and cover, turn and cook for another 7 minutes.
Mix mayo with buffalo sauce.
Toast buns.
Coat Kaiser both sides of roll with mayo buffalo sauce mix.
Place burger on roll.
Add pickles.
Add arugula.
Serve with fries.
