Quarantine Turtles

I wanted to make some candy and worked with stuff I had in the house.  In full disclosure, I bought the M&Ms.  I wasn’t patient enough to cook it long enough to make brittle, so I turned it into a caramel chocolate peanut M&M candy bar. With chili powder.  Hope you like it.
2 1/3 cups sugar
1/2 cup water
1 cup dark Karo syrup
1 cup M&Ms
1 cup whole peanuts
1 cup chopped peanuts
3 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon baking soda
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup dark chocolate chip, melted and cooled (optional: add cream and stir vigorously for a smoother consistency)
In a large sauce pan add sugar, water, butter, and Karo syrup
Bring to a boil; use a candy thermometer and let mixture get to 250
Add peanuts, vanilla, salt, and baking soda
Add M&M’s
Continue cooking to 280
Pour on a parchment-lined baking sheet
Let cool in refrigerator for 2 hours
Cut into 2×1 pieces and dip into melted dark chocolate
Refrigerate for 1 hour and don’t share – Eat them all yourself.
