Gooey Butter Cake

This dessert is uniquely Saint Louis. Like ribs and fried ravioli, this is a must eat item when visiting Saint Louis. Now, many people make some changes to this, and I’m no different. I add some nuts and some bourbon vanilla. I hope you like it.

1 box yellow cake mix
4 eggs, divided
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 cups walnuts
2 teaspoons bourbon vanilla, divided
8 ounces cream cheese at room temperature
4 cups powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 350.

Mix cake mix with 2 eggs and melted butter.

Add teaspoon of vanilla and beat for 2 minutes.

Place batter in a butter 2 pans 8×8.

Sprinkle nuts over batter evenly.

In a second bowl, cream cheese with remaining vanilla.

Add 2 eggs and beat for 2 minutes.

Add powdered sugar 1 cup a time until everything is incorporated.

Pour over batter and nuts.

Bake for 30-35 minutes at 350.
