Mike Burger

Whoever heard of fried oysters on a burger? Well, my brother Mike asked for it at a restaurant, and it worked, so I recreated it. Happy Family Ranch provided the beef, and Crosby’s Crabs had the fresh oysters . Topped with some greens, pepper jack cheese and some remoulade on a Kaiser roll. I hope you like it.

4 1/4 pound beef patties (I got mine at Happy Family Ranch)
8 -10 large oysters (I got mine at Crosby’s Crabs)
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup corn meal
1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
4 Kaiser rolls, split
8 teaspoons remoulade sauce
4 slices pepper jack cheese
Salt and pepper
4 ounces fresh arugula (due to supply chain issues I had to use romaine lettuce)

Butter and oil to cook

Preheat oven to 200 (yes 200).

Mix corn meal, flour and Old Bay.

Heat skillet to medium; add butter and oil.

Dredge oysters to coat completely.

Add to pan and brown to crisp on both sides and put on a baking sheet and put in oven. Now the oven makes sense.

Season both sides of beef.

In a large second skillet on medium heat, add beef patties. Cook for 4 minutes on each side.

Add cheese to patties. Cover for 2 minutes to melt the cheese

Assembly:
Bottom bun
Beef patty with cheese
Fried Oysters
Arugula
Top bun with remoulade sauce

  1. Yes, they served something very similar at Roy’s Place in Gaithersburg. It closed a few years ago, but it had several hundred sandwiches there, including many with oysters. We used to eat there after every swim meet in the summer for 20 years. After Roy died, so did the restaurant. Thanks for sharing this
