It’s not what you think, I like some really questionable food. I have since I was a kid in Detroit eaten things that make many go eeww. I ate these items when I was young because they were cheap then later because I like them because of memories and the just taste good. I will cover my favorites. I hope you like it.
White Castle – Sliders, gut grenades, I was once told just throw them in the toilet and save time. The tastes best at 2 AM and back in the 80’s the cheeseburgers cost 30 cents each a bag with fries and a coke cost under $5. It was a perfect. They (White Castle) just opened the first store in the DC area. Since I don’t stay up till two anymore I don’t see me reliving those days but when I’m in Detroit I do get some.
Jack in the Box – Another coming out of the bar food. The Jack Taco and jumbo Jack burger were perfect to take the edge off on the drive home. Greasy food absorbs the beer is what my Dad told me.
The Waffle House – This place has a special place in my heart both personally and professionally. I had a mentor who would salee there and we came up with the concept for 3 multi- million dollar new business ventures. This divisions skunks work was out of a Dayton Ohio Waffle House. The real draw was the cheese hash browns bacon and sausage. 3 times a week we would disappear for 3 hours to chart the future.
Skyline chili from the grocery store – They have it in the frozen section. This is pure junk but it takes me back to my time in Dayton. It was a time for young sales guys to grab a cheap bite to eat. I do add extra cheese and onions because they never have enough. I have no idea why I like it.
McDonalds – Every Lent I am required to get a fillet-o fish sandwich. I’ve done this because I am Catholic and my faith requires it. Or that is how I remember it. Every Lent I get them although McDonalds is kind enough to discount them to $3 to $4 dollars. Without the Lent discount they are over $6 and I’m not going to buy them at that price.
Now is the time to confess your guilty pleasures. What do you eat that you want to tell everyone about?
My favorite quirky meal is a bowl of corn bread and milk! I bet there are millions of young folks who never even heard of it. Crumble cold (or warm) corn bread into a bowl of milk and add lots of black pepper and chopped sweet raw onion.
My dad preferred buttermilk, but I never did like that.

Pizza Hut thin crust pizza is one of my guilty pleasures. Pizza Hut was the first national chain restaurant to move into our small town. It was the first time I got to eat pizza!
Fried mushrooms. I love fried mushrooms and can eat them for an entire meal.
In college, I would walk across the street to Burger King and get a Whooper Jr. and a small fries for a $1. Even today, I love getting a Whopper Jr and fries. The price has gone up.
Toco Bell’s crunchy toco supreme and Nachos BellGrande was a craving when I was pregnant. I still love to eat at Toco Bell when on a road trip.

I am a big fan of the Waffle House! We have a local one and everyone always seems so happy to work there and they are really good at serving a basic and good meal for breakfast. A good breakfast is always my guilty pleasure.

I am a foodie, at Heart. A little hot sauce and I’ll eat virtually anything. With that having been said my go-to guilty eats are:
Applebee’s: Boneless Wings/Nachos + Quesadilla Burger
McDonalds: McGangBang(McDouble + McChicken) and a dozen fresh baked cookies.
Jack in the Box: TACOS. And their Jalepeno Poppers
And maybe the grossest: Fried Chicken Hearts and Gizzards 🤤 Have to buy the hearts from the store, not a fast food item lol.

I get my hearts from the farmers market. If you search my site you’ll find lots of organ meat recipes. They have their own section in my next cookbook
