Poppa Art’s Bourbon Bread Pudding

My Dad loved bread pudding and bourbon.  So I updated his recipe and made it more in line with my taste.  Hope you like it.

1 loaf old bread (challah bread works best)
2 cups whole milk
2 cups half and half
5 large eggs
1 cup sugar
1 pinch salt
1/2 cup golden raisins
1/2 cup regular raisins
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon bourbon

Pre-heat oven to 350

In a bowl mix eggs, milk, half and half, sugar, bourbon, and vanilla

Cut bread into cubes

In a bowl add bread cubs and raisins
Add raisins to bowl
Add egg and milk mixture
Mix
Let soak for 20 minutes
Place in a 9 x 13 baking dish

Bake for 45 minutes or until liquid is absorbed and top is browning

Bourbon sauce:
1 cup white sugar
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 pinch salt
1 teaspoon bourbon

Melt sugar in water until it boils into a caramel state it add heavy cream, salt, and bourbon

Serve with ice cream
